Groundhog Day Snow Challenge

Happy snow day PHASD! Let's celebrate by keeping our minds sharp. Choose two of the following challenges to complete and share. You may either tweet your challenge using the hashtag #1PHASD, post to the Port Huron School official Facebook page, or send an e-mail to rwynkoop@phasd.us. Three of the four challenges don't even require getting out of your pjs!

1. In honor of Black History Month, research interesting facts about George Washington Carver, agricultural chemist. Share a favorite fact. If you share on Twitter, remember to include #1PHASD and #blackhistorymonth.

2. For our scientists,  the science of snowflakes. Watch this cool video about the chemistry of snowflakes. Then, use the article on "The Science of Snow" to predict the shape of the snowflakes that fell this morning based upon the temperature in Port Huron. Hashtags for this challenge are #snowscience and #1PHASD.

3. Thinking a snow day should be more of a lazy day? Find a comfortable place to read. This should be your choice or independent reading. It could be a graphic novel, a game "cheat" manual or your favorite author. Take a picture of you reading in your favorite spot. Make sure we can see the title of your book! Hashtag for this challenge is #1PHASDreads.

4. It's Groundhog day. Did Phil see his shadow? What does it mean if he does or does not? Do you believe a ground hog can predict the length of winter? Tag your post #groundhogday and #1PHASD.

The last challenge, GO OUTSIDE! It's cold out there, so don't forget your hat, gloves and boots. Enjoy your snow day.
